Back2Better boosted Gary's walking mojo
Gary who works at Falkirk Council was the grand winner of the ‘Back 2 Better’ challenge and won the prize of 100,000 BetterPoints for himself, and a charity of his choice. During the six week challenge he clocked up 150 miles of active travel.
Before he starting using the BetterPoints app he would go on regular walks to help his health and well-being. He found that he lost the motivation to walk during the lockdown and his walk to work became his only activity.
Here is what he said about how the Back 2 Better challenge helped him:
“As we emerged from the first lockdown I heard about the app from a colleague at work. So I started to do more short walks to break up the day and keep active.
The app has helped me get back into a better routine post lockdown. It encouraged me to make sure I got out of the house and got in four walks a day to stay at the top of the leaderboard. I was also spurred on by some friendly rivalry with a colleague who was in second place most of the time!
As the Grand prize winner - Gary also nominated Strathcarron Hospice to receive the matched 100,000 BetterPoints:
I chose this charity because it’s local to me, and I thought where better to donate those points than the local hospice. They do so much good in our area. Plus, at the moment lots of their usual fundraising opportunities have been cancelled due to Covid – so they need donations more than ever right now.
I really wish I’d found out about Travel Right Falkirk earlier and looking forward to any future challenges.” – Gary
Congratulations to Gary and all the weekly prize winners across the six weeks. Syngenta won the team prize for the organisation that topped the leaderboard. They have also nominated Strathcarron Hospice to receive their prize of 500,000 BetterPoints. We are really excited to hear from them very soon and their reaction to being the challenge champions.
There are lots more prizes up for grabs during November for all your active travel. So wrap up, stay active and earn rewards with Travel Right Falkirk.
